Book Review - Zero Option by Chris Ryan
Synopsis
What happens if an SAS Sergeant is tasked to assassinate the British prime Minister?
SAS Sergeant Geordie Sharp, locked in a desperate private battle with the IRA, is required to undertake two top-secret missions, in the full knowlege that, if they go wrong, the authorities will deny all involvement.
In the first operation he serves as commander of a hit team on a 100 per cent non-attributable task assigned to the Regiment’s ultra secret Subversive Action Wing. The target is an Iragi who defected to Libya after the Gulf War.
Returning to base, Sharp finds he must also carry out a high-level political assassination in mainland Britain. If he fails, his four-year-old son will die…
Review
After reading the complete works of Tom Clancy, I was on the lookout for a new author and stumbled across a 2 for 1 offer in my local Co-op. Perusing the selection on offer, I came across Stand By, Stand By and Zero Option by Chris Ryan. It was with a bit of trepidation that I began reading as I had become so used to the writing style of Clancy but I was more than pleasantly surprised.
Right from the first chapter, this book had me gripped in a fast paced, involved plot that kept me coming back for more, never wanting to put it down and giving me quite a few nights of very little sleep. The whole plot is thoroughly believable and you could quite easily close your eyes and put yourself in Geordie Sharp’s shoes, from the depths of the Libyan desert to the doorstep of Chequers, you feel the tension all the way.
All in all, a fantastic read which has led to me stocking up on a few more titles. To purchase Zero Option, or to find out more about the story, click here
